The list was compiled by taking largest number of sales per square foot for the mall facilities.
Although there are those who believe “competition and e-commerce are killing malls”, many shopping centres have actually experienced the opposite as long as they keep improving in order to stay relevant. The key is in providing memorable physical experiences, whether it includes adding theatres, concierges, or other customer service amenities. Shopping malls differentiate themselves from online shopping by being able to provide a space for socialization and immediate gratification.
For me, I’m not a big shopper but I do enjoy the experience every now and then. With clothes, I like being able to feel the fabric and try it on; sometimes a dress that looks fabulous on the rack may not look as nice once tried on. You can’t smell and sample that new lotus flower hand cream from a website, or make a pit stop at Purdy’s Chocolates for a decadent scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream.
All in all, congratulations to those that made the list!
